Census 2027: 13.5 million households registered in UP on the first day of door-to-door house listing

The door-to-door house listing and household enumeration — marking the first phase of Census 2027 in Uttar Pradesh — commenced on Friday.

On the inaugural day itself, enumerators successfully reached over 13.5 million households across the state and assigned them a unique census number. Concurrently, historical and religious sites — including the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the Taj Mahal, and the Jhansi Fort — have also been incorporated into the census enumeration process.

According to departmental officials, the house listing and household enumeration work under the first phase of the census was initiated across 3,89,312 designated blocks within the state. Enumerators and supervisors went door-to-door to assign numbers to buildings and prepare corresponding maps.

By 5:00 pm on Friday, census takers had successfully recorded numbers for 13,502,160 households. Additionally, the entire enumeration process was fully completed in 56 of these designated blocks.

Furthermore, data collection via a dedicated mobile application has also commenced in 14,546 house listing blocks.

Officials said this digital framework will ensure greater transparency and efficiency in data compilation. Prior to this phase, a ‘self-enumeration’ campaign was conducted across the state from May 7 to May 21. During this period, citizens voluntarily submitted details regarding their families and residences online. By the final day of the campaign, 4,796,158 families across the state had successfully completed their self-enumeration.

According to officials, the entire census process is being made technology-driven this time to ensure that data collection is conducted in a time-bound and accurate manner.
